I've got an 84 F150 4X4 with a very recent remanned 351W H.O.(longblock) that I installed myself. I dutifully reconnected every bit of the emissions junk that now hides my perfect Ford blue engine. My smog pump now makes a god-awful buzzing/whirring noise that I can't stand (the belt hadn't been installed when i got the truck). My question is that if the smog pump belt "mysteriously" gets removed and any small vacuum hoses are plugged, would this be bad for the initial break in period for the engine? I already performed all the break in procedures recommended by the builder (accelerating from 30-50 mph 10 times and so forth), but still only have around 35 miles on the engine total. Thanks for any help.
Tom
The smog pump adds air into the exhaust to help completely burn any leftover fuel from combustion thus lowering emissions.
It has no effect on the break in of your new motor.
Thanks for responding Jeff. My feeling was that it wouldn't hurt anything, but I just didn't know for sure. I hope to replace the exhaust this summer if I can scrape up enough change. Thanks again.
