I'm thinking about putting rhinoliner in my 67 f100. However, I'm pretty sure once it's put down, it will stay that way. I'm trying to keep the truck as original looking as possible, but the man that owned it previously has already put steel plating in the bed. There's no rust under it, and I have no idea why it was put in, but it's welded in, so it stays.
If your looking to keep the truck as original as possible, you could have the rhinolining color matched to your paint. That will cost you extra though.
You cant go wrong with Rhinolining OR LineX. Both are a very simular product. Both are far superior to the CHEAP roll on stuff found at your local auto parts store or wally world, as they do not have shelf stability chemicals added. What little other chemicals they have evaporate on spraying them, thats why both can be sprayed and then immediatly can be hit with a screw driver and it wont budge.
The down side is that once either is sprayed, its there for life, unless you sand blast or chemical dip the bed. The biggest thing is the prep before having it sprayed. In some cases the lining can peal, mainly due to prep work, but the company that sprayed it can spot spray and redo that small section.
One other thing is texture. From what ive seen, Rhinolining has a rough texture, as compared to LineX which has a smoother texture though is still rough compared to say a basketball. Both are also prone to fading over time due to ultra violet light.
You also have to choose the thickness you want. From 1/8 thick to as thick as you want $$$.
If there was a choice between the two, I would choose the company that would give me the best deal, and turn around time.
ive got a 94 out in the junk row that was rhino lined and i could honestly tell ya ill never put any spray in liner in any truck ever again! cuzz you cant see rust! it rusted the whole bed side out under the liner! by the time it was dicovered it was to late its realy bad to to piont of junk!
I sprayed Hippo liner on my F100 but I did it on the body from the door handles down, wanted something a little different and more durable than paint . That Hippo liner was tintable so I could match it to the rest of the truck, it's been about 4 yrs. and no fading at all but I do have a couple minor chips which I touched up. Some spray liner are rubberized which would hold up better in the bed I believe. Before you spray any on your bed though make sure it's in good condition and sealed or else as Wizzard said above it could be destroyed before you even realize it.
I used a Rhinoliner in my 66 F100, it peeled out in less than a year, No rust under after it was removed. LineX replaced it, much better product. Myself, I don't do original much, so I had no conserns with the way it looks, as long as I like.
