Fuel Filter Question

So i looked on fleetfilter.com and they have the fuel filters for pretty cheap. This is what they had part # 33818:

When i changed my fuel filer the last time, when i got it from my local auto parts store i remember it looking different. Is the filter in the picture the right one or no? Is there any difference?

Matt, i'd really like to be able to give you a deffinite answer to help you out with this, but i can only tell you what i know..... the filter in that picture is different than the one in my 99 250 super duty, the one in my truck isnt joined to the lid like that (that filter looks more like the dodge cummins design)... but that doesnt mean it isnt the right filter, i would assume that you would just discard the factory lid? the one thing nicer about the filter in this picture is that it has the nut on the lid for easier removal, so if it will work, i would say go for it!

sorry i couldnt give you an actual answer, im sure someone on here can, everyone on here is very helpfull and knows their stuff!!

that its. they come in differant lids. mine has "slots" that i turn by hand then tighten with a few taps of a screwdriver but that one looks good. just has a socket nut on top to tighten

If it were me, I'd go with this one,

Your Premiere Source for Ford Truck Parts and Accessories

This is where I get mine and they are OEM, and cheaper than fleetfilter. I usually order 3-4 oil filters and 2-3 fuel filters at a time.

I bought the same filter and the paperwork that came with it says it is a new design and supposed to be better. I would not throw the old lid away as you may get out somewhere and not be able to get a wix filter and have to use the old lid.

I installed that very same filter today and it worked well. I have had to replace the cap before cause I couldnt get it to stop leaking. New cap with this one every time you change it. Be sure to lube the bottom o-ring, it dont want to go in very well when dry.

If it were me, I'd stick with the Racor model. That's the one originally installed by Ford. The link listed above is a good price on them. If you go with that new wix, I'd pay close attention to how well the pleats are stuck and spaced to the housing, and inspect the bottom gasket closely. Wix has traditionally made good filters, but seeing their "gold" filter with no prefilter screen around it has me wondering. I've read that the new wix filter for the obs trucks has had issues with the bottom gasket (not o-ring) not being right.

Baldwins have a built-in new top, and are very-well made.

I have never had a problem with their performance, nor have I had one leak.

They're harder to find, and they're not the cheapest out there, but they're worth using.

Not all filters are equal.

The fuel filter I took off the truck had a square drive socket to turn it. The fuel filter I bought from NAPA had hand tightening ribs. I think they're just different designs, but are all made for the same application.

I've heard about filters with the integral lid being a problem (leaking, lid cracking, etc.) and have had zero problems with the Racor filter that I get from powerstrokeshop.com. That's my experience, and will be sticking with what's worked for me & many others.

My truck originally came with the all in one filter design and it leaked when I bought it. I had to order another lid and stuck with the rancor models. I even have a cool tool given to me by Brian at BTS to remove it.

Found the Racor filter for 19.41 before shipping. Thought that was pretty cheap...

PFF4596 Racor Fuel Filter for 1999 - 1999 FORD 7.3L PowerStroke Trucks*

Anything know anything about that? That is the right filter right?

It's 17.80 at the link above before shipping and it's OEM. Yours looks to be OEM as well. Racor is the OEM brand,
