Even with a 460, it wouldn't 'FEEL GOOD'. What 4-speed do you have. The ones with or without OD? If you got one of the tough ones (T-18/NP435), you will have 1st gear low to pull out with, but it will still be a sluggish vehicle. But, like he said, short answer is yes.
I am running 35's on my truck with a 300, 3.50g and np435. I can start in second but it doesn't like it. You will need to use that granny gear to get rolling, but once you get going you will be fine....you can kiss racing anyone good bye! LOL Oh and hills suck! I plan on going to a 4.56 as soon asa I can!
Yes short answer is right your truck will turn 37s with the 300 6. I used to have a 84 150 with 300 6 and the 435 4 speed and I used to turn 36s, if you really know how to drive your clutch will not hate you. I took my truck apart a lil over a year after putting the 36s on it to put a built up 302 in it and my clutch was in such good shape I used it with the 302.
right now i have 35's and 3:07's and i can start in second but its not the best if i put in my 3.50 axles and keep 35's it should start good in second right?
what is your plans for the truck, highway or offroad? I ran 38 boggers w/a 460 and 350 gears, while on the street, it was sluggish...but in 4lo, the gears allowed enough wheel speed to do rather well in the mud...It never seemed to do much better in the mud when I did go to 4.10s compared to the 350s, but there was a diff on the street tho...
i am 18 and it is my daily driver to school and work i fo 4x4ing every weekend mostly playing in the mud and seeing where the logging roads will take me
for a DD, then I would go for 35s, that would prolly get you the best of both worlds.....they can perform ok onroad, and depending on tread, would do ok offroad....although having tall tire with numerically low gears will produce more strain on your drivetrain so make sure its up par(ujoints, clutch, hubs, bearings, etc..) before heading to the trails....when you are able to, upgrade to 4.56s or 4.88.s with 37s and you will be golden....
hmm.. I run 44's with 390,410's, and np435 and rarely start in first gear even on some slight hills. It's my daily driver and accelerates very well with top speed of about 110 km/h. I do have a very fresh 390 built all for bottom end with rv crane cam and edelbrock dual plane performer intake.
