anyone used any pallet racking for storage in their shop? we have a used PR depot up the street, and 11ft tall, 5 ft deep, 9 ft wide, times 2 is around $500. 3 full wire rack shelves each 9 ft section. .. thats 9x5x6 sq ft (270) of storage. the wire racks can hold 1000lbs each 9ft section.
then I will have vertical storage for fenders, doors and all kinds of other body parts that are in the way on the floor (no matter where I stand them).
I have two different size shelving that I use for my truck parts. Small racking shelves for the stuff above my office and larger, what I consider medium size racking for parts I have in my truck area in my shop. In the picture below the larger racking in in the foreground and the smaller shelving is above the office area:
Both sets I have are of the same design, just one set is smaller than the other. I wouldn't have room for the larger, heavier industrial size. If I needed it I know I could get some for a very reasonable price. A friend of mine gets paid to remove it from warehouses in the area. If you have the room for it I the the bigger the better.
Well Bob we finally found out who cleaned all the parts out of the junkyards.
I have enough spare sheet metal and other parts to replace everything on my truck in the event I need to. My wife thinks I'm a little obsessive but if some one was to bang into my panel where would I find a decent front fender?

Yeh. I have 4 trucks and spare fenders too.. got to put it all somewhere.
OH, and my 25yr old son has a 29 ford rat rod under construction and I'm hold the parts for that too.. 322 nailhead motor, 9in rear, etc..
The reason most of us don't have any is because we don't have the space for it. If you do, then it will work great. I have purchased lots of it for use in our business. You should be able to make some good buys now, figure the size you want. The smallest capacity stuff available will probably do everything you need. Joe
thanks.. this is the current view of the storage in the shop, its 8x8 and with a wood floor and not a lot of support.. (ah moving is SO MUCH FUN (not!))
I plan to put the rack on the far end wall, take down the 8x8 and move the fenders & other stuff off the 56 project, seen here (one double set of shelves on the right end wall next to the vehicle door, one set on the floor under the 56). the 56 is now outside so I can work on the 54 frame again.
and here is some of the stuff to put away (the 29 is now moved to that end wall)
(yes, it is resting on the 54 f100 chassis, cab in the distance)
thanks.. we bought this property cause of the shop (and a better house for the boss!).. after I scratched the tailgate on the green truck (aka my wife calls 'the mistress' cause shes always wanting something!) in the garage.
then my son got foreclosed, and voila, all that stuff too..
I had 100s of those p.r. and used them in my shop. When I sold....I wish I would have brought some home. I miss them....nice for stacking parts on....as shown above...LOL/Bill
The industrial shelving is great if you have the room and you could pick up a little industrial stacker(Big Joe / Raymond) to put pallets in them. You can find these things just about anywhere for little or nothing.
