Question HELP...04 6.0 wont start...pulled 3 codes??

I have a 2005 6.0 Excursion 4x4 with just under 48k miles that wont start? I know that the motor is an 04 build. It happened yesterday, and after alot of cranking I let it sit and came on here and read some posts. I checked the fuel cap and it's OK. Tried it again and it fired rite up. Drove it around for a few hours and seemed to be fine...fired up everytime. Went to start this afternoon and it cranks over like normal but wont start.

I`m running an Airraid cold air intake, 4" turbo back Magnaflow Exhaust with the Bully Dog PMT programmer.

I pulled 3 codes from the PMT:

P0603 Internal keep alive memory KAM error

P1000 Monitor testing incomplete

P2614 Camshaft position signal output circuit / open

Any help would be greatly appriciated

I would concentrate on that code, check the connection on the CMP, clean it, replace the CMP, etc.

woohoo you got yourself a cam sensor that needs replacing. yor going to want to kill yourself after your done with that. go to a dealer and get a new cam sensor and cam sensor o rings (very importaint). the cam shaft position sensor is located on the left side of the engine (master cylinder side) get under your truck with a flash light you will be able to see two wires oming out of it. its kinda a block hugger so look carefully shuld be front side tho, within reach. unplug it carefully so ou dont break th connector. remove the 8 mm holding it in and pop it out. it should be about 5 inches long so dont freak when it hits something else in the way to pop out. take out your new one put the o rings on the sensor. lubricate with engine oil. very importaint if you dont lub it it will rip the o rings and it WILL leak oil all over your engine block. and pop it back in. put the 8 mm back in and plug it in. remove both positive and negative battery terminals for five minutes if you dont have a code reader to clear codes (this clears codes). and bam. our done. -6.0L Ford Tech

Thanks guys!! I will try that and hope for the best. I thought that this was a 7.3 problem, not for 6.0`s? Must be my luck ;^)

Just hope that's it cause I have a photo shoot for the Excursion with Truckin' Magazine on the 22nd of this month and I have lots a last minute stuff to button up.

Thanks,
Don

I inspected the wiring that looked to be still in good condition and free from any frays nicks or anything. Pulled the clip off the sensor and it came off very easy, and looked clean like new on the inside where it connects to the sensor. Plugged it back in and she fired rite up. Deleted DTC`s with the Bully Dog and is not showing any codes. If the cam sensor was bad would it keep starting and be an intermitant problem or could the connector be bad?

Thanks

Cam Sensor

I think I would still change out the sensor. My experience with the 7.3 was intermittent failure, stop, fuss, run no problem. It might just run good enough to fail at the most inconvenient of times and places. I don't recall the part being a high cost item.

I just found my paperwork from the Ford dealership from 12/18/07 when the Excursion was in for similar problems. Paperwork reads "Found Cam Sensor not reading...Replace Cam Sensor with new. So, I've already had one replaced...what are the odds of needing another one in a year and one month? Could it be the connector?

The connector is definately a possibility. Having a bad cam sensor on a 6.0L is quite rare...

well intermittant cam sensors happen every once in a while. if you inspected the wires and connector correctly then it should be fine. id go with the new sensor and o rings. some dealer guys that put those in bend them a little bit so that they will clear the steering crap in the way. so this could cause it to fail later ive had it happen to me so im more careful with these. remember oil the o rings. -6.0L Ford Tech

i doubt it is the sensor. i have had most of my wiring harnesses fail with the cam sensor wiring area. next time it wont start, wiggle the wirring goiing to the cam sensor and have someone else try to start it for you. it she starts its a harness.
