upfitter switches, easy install?

I have a 08 F250, want to get a set as mine didn't come with them. Anyone buy a set? were they easy to install?

I am planning a buying a winch and lights so I want to use them for that.

Yes. No. Actually they weren't too bad, you just have to be a contortionist, and like standing on your head under the dash. The relay module mounts up quite high in the driver's side of the dash to the left of the steering wheel. Not the same location of the earlier ones. And mine (genuine Ford kit) didn't come with any mounting screws.

When I installed them in my 05 it took about an hour. The instructions in the super duty folder are perfect

I bought a kit from a guy on e-bay, I came with the switches and parts needed to fill the hole next to the switches, and the harness and relay and was about $150.00 complete. I think the guy is a ford dealer, just do a search for super duty upfitter switches. Like alchmyst said the hardest part is hanging upside down while twisting in 4 different directions at once while looking for the plug and securing the relay.

The relay box is mounted to the left side of steering wheel, as mentioned in an earlier post. The factory connection for the wires has a cap that needs to be removed by pulling back on the arms on both sides of cap, which exposes the plug that will match up with the plug on relay wiring loom.

The kit comes with a diagram which points out the location of the plug and wiring, it is a pretty easy installation, I think the plug has a black cap on it. Does anybody know which wire to hook up on the 08 for the high idle, there are about a thousand wires under the dash that are not connected to any thing.

Actually theres only about a dozen or so. Search the forum using "upfitter switches" as the search term. Lotsof info. Also look here:

That is some good stuff, thanks for the info, I wish I would have seen that wiring diagram before I ran all those wires for the radios and lights and stuff. Apparently it is more complicated for the seic hookup than just energizing one wire, you need a resistor and relay.

well I must be blind. Got the switches today, removed the cover for the steering column, looked all over and could not figure out where the harness for the switches goes or where to plug it in to. The kit did not come with any directions at all. This is my a 08. Can anyone give me a better directions?

It is not behind the steering wheel cover, you need to take off the panel underneath the steering wheel, turn upside down, sideways, twist in two different positions, and on your back and look up behind the dashboard and the plug is mixed in all of those wires. There is more than one plug, but it will only fit one. I think mine was up torwards the under side of the dash, and torwards the center of the wheel. You have to take out the coin tray and fish the wires through to the plug from the back to the switches. They say to mount it with the supplied bracket, but there is no way in f that I could see to do it, so I just got one screw in and zip-tied it in place. It is not hard once you find the plug, it's just getting to it. Good luck.

No problem. Don't forget to leave the four hookup wires for the devices where you can get to them, they should be labeled.
