01' Excursion/ $ 4k ?

Well guys,,,let me tell ya,,,I know see why the man still has that Excursion for sale,,,and I did not buy it either,,,got up to his place about 9:15 am this morning,,95 miles from my house,,,cash in my pocket,,,trailer all checked out,,chains,,blocks of wood,,floor jack,,tools,,was ready to bring it home,,,,LOL,,now all I need to do is test drive it,,,,,Now in his add it says,,,,"Buy it and drive it home!",,So I see the Ex. is unlocked,,open the door look in,,,yup,,a Limited,,heated seats,,6-disk in the dash,,tan leather,,it is dirty ,,but I can clean her up,,,check out the paint,,,few scratchs,,but still shines,,my son pops the hood,,V-10 looks decent,,not real dirty,,needs an oil change,,tranny fluid looks and smells fine,,,put the jump pack too it,,starts OK,,sounds good,,,guy puts a plate on it,,says lets go for a ride,,,So I get in,,test the brakes,,hmm a little low,,but seem to stop,,,guys say ok,,Go straight across,,We take off,,good pickup,,,hmmm something feels weird front end,,kinda wants to go where-ever,,,then it hits,,,,GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRR,,,this god awful groaning,,,truck vibrating,,,thought a fricken plane was crashing on us,,,,,,No It's the
EXCURSION,,,growling and vibrating as I stop,,,W_T_F was that,,,Oh someone must of put in 4x4(the guy said),,,so I engage 4x4,,then 2wd,,then backup, twenty feet(the guy is telling me to do this) we then procede forward,,,go about 100 yards,,,,,,,,GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR,,,again and again it does it,,,he gets in and drives it,,,,,does it every time you back off the gas,,,,like its the transfere case ready to have a come apart or something,,,oh then the dash starts smoking where someone pulled out there alarm system,,,,,I just drove 1-45 mins pulling a trailer to bring this thing home,,,,,,,,,needless to say,,I came home with out an Excursion, and the cash in my pocket,,,,,So I keep looking !
I dont have any Idea what was wrong with this truck,,,I dont think the small needle bearings in the hub would make a noise like that,,a wheel bearing would always make the noise,,,Hubs were seized,,,I swear it sounded like the transfere case was about to blowup,,maybe the torque-converter was loose,,,,I dont know,,,but I dont need a money pit that deep,,LOL,,,,,Later,,,Mark

yeah...right.....first - figure the cost of gas to get it to the west coast...then...that last 2,200 mi. To the islands might 'dampen your enthusiasm'...heck...you'd spend that on windshield wiper blades.....
