Has anyone used a Rack & Pinion Steering setup on a straight axle? I found one on F100Central's website, and it seems like it would be better then using the Toyota Power Steering setup, plus it's a bit cheaper. Let me know.
I'm not sure what would be better about it with the steering shaft constantly telescoping, but someone on here bought one, don't know if they are driving it yet?
Cheaper? maybe if you are buying the Toy kit with the rebuilt box. Most of us are using used boxes (they are tough little buggers that seldom develop problems) that can be found for less than 100.00.
i have a 51 merc and iam going with rack and pinion steering from an 89 mustang all you need to do is weld brackets on the old i beam on an angle to match steering shaft so you dont have awild angle on the shaft there is after market slip shafts to take care of telescoping issue but if my memory doesnt escape me check on mopar shafts also your not talking alot of movement i think arack is better than atoyota box because the rack gives you a ratio of less than 3 turns stop to stop compared to a little over 6 stop to stop also im going with power steering rack it was a donor from my sons mustang ..free low kilometers..from oldies
