hope you all can help will the MBRP 3.5" downpipe fit in the stock system, and will it help any ?? For now all i want is to change the DP and leave cat and rest in place thanks
i have the 3.5 inch mbrp downpipe, easiest mod i ever did, took me like 15 minutes by myself. if you have someone to help you it will take 5 minutes. as for fitting up to the cat, i cant help you there becase mine is straight piped. but all you have to do is see if it will fit up with it and if it doesnt then go to you local auto part store and get an adapter to make it work
but i will say that having a dp that is easily removed makes for a lot more room up there for future mods/work. i tried to plug my egr with the "frost plug" mod last week but had to give up because it was just too tight and i didn't feel like chopping up my exhaust just to get the dp out. i would compare the cost of a full system vs just the dp and see what works for you.
What about us guys that have straight piped the factory exhaust? I put in a muffler delete pipe and used the pipe that connects to the down pipe from a 7.3 truck that bolts in place of the cat. Would this benefit me at all? Anyone know if it has the same style flange that is where the down pipe would normally bolt to the cat? Thanks.
The MBRP down pipe has a different style flange than the OEM setup. You may have a leakage at the DP and cat, but it just needs some adjusting to line up correctly to prevent the leaking.
I run the MBRP DP and MBRP cat delete pipe into the OEM tubing. Fits like a glove, no leaks and sounds great with the muffler deleted.
Yes it should go in fine. That is how it works with the full exhaust system, the downpipe goes in, bolts to the front of the stock cat, then the rest bolts behind the stock cat.

Yeah my tech had a bit of a hard time keeping it from leaking there, just had to use a couple of gaskets. I've got the cat delete pipe, but haven't put it in yet. The dealer said they wouldn't do it, and it "might" voide my warranty. With the problems I've had so far this winter I'm glad it isn't in yet.
I wouldn't bother with the downpipe if you still have the cat and cat-back stock. With the restriction of the cat you won't notice any difference.
I would have to disagree. The MBRP down pipe (DP) has one less bend than the stock DP. Additionally, the MBRP DP is mandrel bent while the stock DP is not meaning the stock DP necks down a little at the bends creating slightly more restriction that the MBRP DP. I can't say how much EGT decrease will be seen, but there should be some benefit to the MBRP DP even if that's all that is done to the exhaust. Personally, I'd go ahead and do the entire exhaust if I was going to do the DP to get the complete benefit, which is quite substantial in EGT drop.
As far as the original question, the 3.5 MBRP DP should fit to your stock CAT as their exhaust systems are designed to work with or without the stock CAT. However, the MBRP DP is a two piece design vice the stock one piece. Make sure you get both pieces if you proceed.
