I know nothing of this "pressure testing", I'm assuming that would require someone else to touch the truck which doesn't happen, unless it's a tire/wheel guy. I've done all my own machanicin' since I was a teenager. I'm not meaning that statement in a bad way or anything toward anyone.
Let's say I took it to be pressure tested, you still can't get back there behind that intake in no mans land to see the leak anyways, or am I just way off base?
It doesn't leak when it's hot, so it would need to be tested when it's cold.
I'm almost sure if I popped of that upper plenum I'd be able find whatever it is. I'm not seeing any crossover tube back there that i can tell. i guess I could rig my own cap or maybe you can buy one to put some pressure on the system while it's cold and I have the plenum off.
I'm still trying to find the mystery exhaust leak on a daily basis as well.
exhaust leak when does that happen? when it's cold too? a tick tick tick from under the hood?

There is a tick if you have the truck idling and you have the hood open and listening in there. I think that's an injector. It's a very high pitch tick, doesn't sound mechanical like a lifter. Putting my hand on the fuel rail I can feel the pulse going along with that ticking.
This other has the distictive exhaust leak sound. I can reproduce it in park by retarding the timing or unpluggin the MAP sensor vacuum, when the ECU whacks out and engine goes under load I can hear it clearly on the right side before the ECU goes into it's default mode and raises the RPM back up. I can hear it inside the truck coming from the right side when I'm driving when engine is under load, part throttle.
I've tighened up that exhaust manifold and where the Y-pipe connects to it, no change. Can't find any tell tale black marks from a leak. Sounds like it's coming from further down than the EGR up front there, no signs of leaking on the EGR pipe.
Might be time to put on some headers and dual exhaust. I'll just tell my wife it's cheaper than trying to find and fix the leak

could be the exhaust manifolds-I got 2 of them here -both 302 s broken!

The pressure tester is just a hand operated pump that goes in the rad. and locks on like the rad. cap, you can purchase one. (I got mine from the Snap-on guy) You need a inspection mirror to see at the back of the motor, small mirror on telescoping rod bends to different angles $4.50 at Harbor freight.............Sounds like you have a hairline crack in your exhaust manifold (probably on the back side where its hard to detect). Hope this helps.
go to a radiator shop, ask them the pressure check the system, stand next to the guy but you open hood, you take off radiator cap (cool engine), he will put on checker but not touch the truck, he will pump it up, you look for leaks, he takes checker off by only touching it and now you close everything up and no one touched your truck.
before you bought your truck lots of people touched it.
sometime sooner or later someone will have to work on your truck.

hope you see my point.
Honestly I don't, I'm the only one that works on it or will work on it. I've built cars and trucks from the ground up so i don't need anyone else to work on them.
I'm just posting here to see if anyone had a similar problem. Might make it a little easier.
tgore3,how old are you.By reading your post,I would say under 24.If you didnt know what preasure testing is,just admit it.These guys are telling you straight up what to do and you are convinced to do it your way.WHY ASK?????
have you tried seafoam to find the exhaust leak? put it in through the brake booster vuccum line shut motor off what 10 min start up and walla you found your exhaust leak and you cleaned out your engine

Going to get attacked now huh? Well, it is the internet
Oh, I'm 35 if you needed to know. I guess I've heard of pressure testing, just never done it.
It's not that i don't appreciate the advice, it's manner in which it's been presented. I'm not taking it somehwere and paying someone to work on it, so I was just trying to end that road civilly.
