Opinions Wanted!
This is my first post to this board and i am looking for opinions and ideas for my "new" truck. I just bought (for a really good deal) a 77 F-150. I got it running and have found out the 400 cid that is in the truck is pretty worn out and the c6 trans needs some help too. I have operated several trucks with the 300 in them and would love to put on in this truck and i have found a rebuilt long block that i can get pretty cheap since the truck it was built for is now totaled. I would like to put that 300 in the truck and put a 5 speed behind it. I need to ask what 5 speeds i can put with it and if i can use the NP 205 trasfer case with them, i know you can use it if you use a ZF 5 speed from a truck with a 460. I am also currious if anyone has done such a swap and what problems have you run into. I would also like to know if anyone has any good ideas on upgrades that would be good for the engine (it is carbed not EFI but i may out EFI in someday) before i put it in the truck, such as camshafts, heads, manifolds ect.
let me know what you all think.

my 88 has 155k and its tranny already needs synchro's. my bronco still shifts like new...
by the time you buy a transmission and get the conversion to work, you could have bought a dualrange(personal favorite) or gearvendors to go behind the 4 speed and be able to split gears.
although if you must i would suggest the np4500.
as for engine upgrades, efi head is good, 4bbl manifold, headers or efi exhaust manifolds. and a lower torque camshaft such as the ones sold for 4x4's should get you started.
