So far I love them, and sadly one of the reasons I like them is they say right on the tire "Made proudly in Japan" and I like Japan, much better than China anyway. I wish I could get Made in America tires, but anymore they are almost impossible to find and way overpriced.
I am very pleased with my Coopers, and yes I have also had a set of Mastercrafts.
That was the first and last set of them I will run.
When they were almost brand new I ran a piece of gravel in a parking lot through the tire and was never really happy with road or off road performance.
285/75-16 is what I am running, only rated D, but they do fine for handling weight.
They might not do so well for extrended high speed heavy loads in the summer, but that is asking a lot of any tire.
Also consider, frequent towing and large diameter tires are not good friends, much higher stress on the driveline from the appartent higher gear ratio
I'm not gonna pull that really heavy load more then 3 or 4 times. I think I'm gonna get coopers. My tires now only have about 3/16 inch of tread left. In 4wd I haven't gotten hung up yet.
Thanks alot guys for the input.
Welll that def puts Cooper one up in my book. I will look into them when I get ready for new tires again. I just know I had a set of firestones that were made in China and were junk, so when I saw Japan I was much relieved that my money was going to an Ally, not a communist antihuman rights country.
My opinion of the Cooper Discoverer S/T over the same size Mastercraft M/T, traction is about twice as good in snow.
They do better in mud.
They are about the same for tire noise.
And the Coopers handle better on dry pavement.
Hey guys I own a tire shop. All of thoes tire are great choices. The Nitto is a great tire good for about 60,000 miles. If you want the best A/T in my book would be the bfg a/t ko at 80,000 miles. You can get both in 10 ply that would handle plenty of weight. If you want a street tred then it is a different story. Thoes are just my favs but all the tires you have talked about are great
I'm running 33x12.50 TOYO MT's ... i really like them. handle great on the highway, so far i've got no vibration or noise from them, and they've got an aggressive enough tread pattern to go anywhere i need off road. got an "E" load rating, not sure about speed. havent had my truck up past 75 yet
I don't do any muddin, But the Cooper ATR's are the best tire I've ever put on a 3/4 ton truck. 235/85/16E W/50K miles on them. Every mile of it with at least 800 lbs in the truck. Usually much more weight.
They're getting replaced this spring with the same tire.
