i am thinkin of putting 2 12'' subs in my bronco. i am also putting a 3gal air tank in the back with them, will the subs echo or sound like your knocking on the tank?
That depends on many variables. The type of box and how much airspace. How close they are to air tank. How full the air tank is. Use a sealed box to get a better crisp sound and if possible put a barrior between the 2. Mount the subs so that they are facing the rear. and put them as close to the rear seat as possible. Mount the air tank on the side past the fenders. I imagine everything else will make so much noise that you wont even hear the air tank.
I have 2 10" Cobolt Orions in the back of my 80, no air tank, they face backwards. I have the amps also mounted on the box, all in 1 unit. It is not a sealed box, but sound very good and has hit 130spl when it was first put togather.
Make sure the tank is full. Air is like a liquid, especially when compressed. Vibrating a tank is like the subs firing into water, and we know what motion does to water. It ripples. When air ripples we hear it as sound waves. So technically it's possible to get a tinny sound. But because of the strength of the steel tank, very little to 0 sound should actually be transferred.
You can throw some loose blankets in the back if you like a "soft" hitting bass. I've also seen the peel and stick sound deflector stuff put on the underside of the topper....felt it helped deaden the rumble. All in all, twin 12's or even 10's really sound off in the bronco, and it shouldn't be hard to get the sound you like with some playing around. For me, it's a tight, soft, no vibration sound.
