Since the Senate voted to allow one to deduct the sales tax and the financed interest of any new U.S. made vehicle, if passed, would that have any affect on a new vehicle (F150, of course!) purchase?
I've always hated sales tax on car purchases. Maybe not so much new but what about every time it gets sold after it becomes used????? Imo the taxes were paid when bought new and shouldnt continue again and again every time its sold after that.
Zero sales tax would be another incentive for car buyers. Bill
No sales tax, sounds great, sure it does. Heck, I live in NH where we don't pay sales or state income tax. I know your thinking, that's great. Here's the kicker, every year as part of our registration renewals, we pay local and state taxes for the "pleasure" of owning/registering any/all vehicles. I'd rather pay sales tax on a vehicle once vs every year.
So, if this sounds great to you, move to a state like NH...
the taxes were paid when bought new and shouldnt continue again and again every time its sold after that.
here in saskatchewan the tax is only paid on a vehicle once, when its bought new. the only exemption is if the vehicle is bought new from a Indigineous person, somehow they get a tax exemption...
i think NO tax on a new vehicle is a great incentive!!
SVT2205 has a great point. No sales tax means you'll pay elsewhere.
I actually agree that no sales tax may help to increase vehicle sales especially in places like Ca. where the sales tax is I believe around 8%. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong.
The thing that really ticks me off is here in Va, the sales tax is 3.5%. No biggy right? Wrong. You pay 3.5% on the MSRP of a new vehicle not the agreed upon price. So your drooling over that 40K Lariat and you can do the quick math and assume that your adding $1400.00 to your purchase no matter how well you did at the closing table. Then you add tags, licensing fees and that stupid built in profit generator called a dealer processing fee that all Va dealers charge and suddenly your looking at about $2000 of added taxes and fees. That's about 5% of the MSRP of the truck right out of your pocket!
Think of the tax revenue that one 40k truck will generate over the course of it's life.
It all depends on how long this program would be in effect. If it runs until the '10s have been out a while and I hear good things about the 5.0, then maybe I'd pull the trigger. However, I'm pretty happy with what I already have, its paid for, and gets better mileage than the 150 gassers (with the exception of the pricier diesel fuel).
