Oil....

The last time I changed my oil I did it myself because the oil change place I used went up to 80 for an oil change from 70. I paid about 50 or so for the oil and filter (rotella). This time I was going to do it myself and the oil and filter were going to cost a little over 70, so I decided to take it back to the oil change place. They have gone up to 110 so I said F-it and decided to do it myself. While standing in walmart trying to figure if it would be cheaper to buy gallons or just get the 2.5 gallon size of rotella, I noticed the motocraft oil. It was alot cheaper than the rotella and it comes in 5 qt jugs so you can get an exact number to get the 15qts. Did I make a mistake useing the motocraft? Is it any good?

I haven't looked at Walmart's shelves for a while but 5QT? I don't think I have ever seen 5qt jugs for diesel.

Usually 5qt oil is for gassers. Did you make sure that it was HD rated for diesel engines?

Make sure the oil is rated for diesel engines. There is a big difference over types of oils for gassers vs. diesels.

Wow, well your wally world is catering to PSD owners. Personally, I love the Rotella Synthetic 5w-40. More $$$ but way better for the truck.

Yes, WM is selling 5 qts of Motorcraft dino 15W-40 Diesel oil for $11 & change. I mentioned that to one of the oil gurus here a while back and he said the truck might run a bit worse with it. Something to do with it foaming too much. Which surprises me -- I'd like to hear your results with it. That would be a dino OC for $44 + tax, including filter...

EDIT: I'd wouldn't mind seeing a Blackstone report on it after 5k miles, too...

I try to not run more than 3k between changes, so hopefully there wont be a way to get a report at 5k

I use it when it warms up a bit. changing to Rotella 10-30 for winter.
but YES walmart carries the 5q bottles. sure is handy when it comes to filling up the oil.

I have never had any trouble with Motorcraft. I acutally switch back adn forth to Rotella and Motorcraft. but I use a WIX filter cause the last motor craft from walmart didnt' fit on install.
