4X4 Auto Engage
I haven't used my 4X4 much in a couple years. Today it snowed, and when I went to engage the in-cab auto 4X4 it wouldn't work. It did, however, work when manually locking the hubs outside. I had the same problem years ago on an Explorer. Is this a common problem due to lack of use and, if so, can I do something to prevent it in the future.

It doesn`t matter what type of four wheel drive you have if you have manual locking hubs you must lock them first. If conditions are such that you need four wheel drive frequently then just leave the hubs locked and shift into and out of fwd from inside the cab. Then when conditions improve you can unlock the hubs again to improve gas milage.
