Edge Programmers and Transmission Sllips

I have a 2004 F-350 w/ 5" MBRP turbo back exhaust, Edge Juice Platinum w/ Attitude, and Jobe Performance Intake. A couple weeks ago while working in Dallas my transmission went out (was drag racing a rice burner and had him 'til the failure). I put the truck in the shop and paid $3600 to have the tranny rebuilt. When I got the truck back I drove from Dallas to San Antonio (home) for the weekend. On the way back to Dallas the tranny started slipping between 3/4 gears. I take the truck straight to the tranny shop upon arrival and they keep it for 2 weeks trying to find the problem (pulled the tranny back out 3 more times). While there, I unplugged the programmer to eliminate it. Last Friday they called and told me the truck was ready and drive it all weekend to make sure. They have no problems with it. When I picked up the truck on Monday I immediately plugged the programmer back in and in less than 2 blocks the tranny starts slipping again. Thinking this may be the problem we disable the programmer. They run several tests and clear engine trouble codes and the truck starts running fine again. I've had this programmer in this truck for approx. 1 year with no problems until the tranny got rebuilt. Is this something I can expect from my programmer from here on out??

With the Edge and anything that is shift on the fly that is very much the risk that you run. They are not properly tuning your transmission for that extra hp. This is primary reason why most suggest custom tunes. Oh by the way, the size exhaust and intake are not doing you much good with just the few mods that you have. 5" exhaust with just a tuner will in all probability be costing you low end power and the intake doesn't really flow more until you are high up in the rpm range, beyond that of the peak hp/tq range of a relatively stock engine with just a programmer.

I have heard tranny complaints with the Edge and Bully Dog. I am not a mod fan but if I were to do it I would go with SCT and custom tunes. JMHO.

Me to.......3 years and no tranny problems. I run my Juice w/ Tude at level 3 (Drive Mode) except when I tow then I go to level 2 (Tow Mode). I have 75,000 miles on the X with a 4.5 quart larger pan and Royal Purple Synthetic ATF since 60,000 miles. Also, I have never gone WOT from a stop. I don't abuse my X but I do enjoy the extra power when I want to. Also I get 16-17 MPG local and 19-20 MPG highway at level 3. Not bad for a 4.5 ton truck.

Ya I agree I rarely floor it from a stop much easier on the tranny if you roll into it. I think level three it plenty of extra power for me, so it works out great. how much smoke do you get with yours on level three?

Drove my truck to Houston today without Edge plugged in. Run like a dream...smooth shifting, it was great. In Houston I plugged in the Edge, truck went stupid again. I set it to Transmission Learn Mode Always On and it seems to be settling down a little. I believe I'll start using the Edge for the intended use, as to the other minor mods...FUEL MILEAGE. I guess when diesel prices started to drop, so did my right foot. It's nice to know the power is there, but I think I'll keep her in Level 1 from now on. Just don't know what mod to do next...FASS Fuel System or Elite Diesel Injectors...or BOTH! *Praying stars line up and Mama says "OK"*

If you get injectors you'll have to get custom tunes and your edge won't be any good for you then. It will never run right for you without matching tuning with those mods.

Also you should do: Fuel Regulated Return, FASS(atleast 150/180, I think they have bigger now), in cab fuel psi gauge, stud the heads(keep stock gaskets) and depending on the size injectors you can keep the stock turbo or you'll need to go up. Even if you do stage 1 injectors(like I did) you'll need to do everything but you can get away with a stock turbo(better with a stock 03 turbo as they are 3mm bigger then the later ones).

It starts getting expensive real quick when you start messing with injectors.

Head Studs are a must...too many horror stories...even though my truck is an 04...was actually built in 8/03, so I've been told that I have one of the better turbos. It's basically a toy for me, bought it to go home to MT to hunt in and fuel prices went stupid. I just bought it last year w/ 120,000 on it. Not bad for a diesel and it was very clean. I use it for work and I've put 70,000 in 12 mos. I'm kicking around the idea of "re-acquiring" my work truck (04 Chevy 3/4 Ton) and park my toy to ease up on the miles.

I've heard good things about them, although I don't have any personal experiance with them. I'm running Casserly's injectors(Full Force Diesel) that I got thru Matt at Spartan.

I get some smoke. No major clouds. More go pedal = more smoke.

how often do you use level 4 or 5? I am always scared to pop the heads or ruin the transmission. I have used level 4 a few times and love it because the smoke just pours out and the power is nice.

I was in Level 5 for about 10 miles today, now it's back in Level 1 (Mileage). I hurt my baby's feelings when I had her guts ripped out and rebuilt (tranny), so now I'm taking it easy for a long time. Besides, after driving a Toyota Tundra for 3 weeks, I've learned to appreciate American Muscle!!

I had the Edge/Juice on my 2004 and the Transmission was shot at 14,000. The second one went out at 15,000, then white smoke at idle with warning lights. Traded it in back to the Dealer for this 2005.
The Edge/Juice ruined everything, this is a warning to all Edge/Juice users.
I suggest like others here, go to the SCT with custom tunes..
