Sorry it took so long...

I need to know the size of the bearing caps.

Are they the same exact size, front and rear on all bearing caps?

1.125"?

In lieu of having a micrometer the caps need to fit the holes as follows.
Rear Shaft -1 1/8
Rear to U-bolt - 1''
Front Shaft - 1 1/8
Tranny yoke - 1 1/8
all these are press fit , not with the spring clip thats supposed to go in there. the u joints I have right now are too big to press into the holes and allow the clips to go in

The book is saying it could have three different types.

1 with all 1-1/8 (1.125" caps)

1 with all 1-1/16 (1.063" caps)

or

1 with 2 of each size.

and that exactly what autosmack gave me.... 1 with 3 of each sizes.. but they claim its all they carry so now I need to find a parts store that carries 1.125 press fit caps and eliminate the snap rings

All else fails your idea to take the old one in will get you the part your after. I am partial to napa or other big name supplier they can get the right part with a caliper measurment of the caps and width of the cross.

I agree there. There is no way to really know if the shaft and parts are original or not unless you bought it new.

As original for your application:

Ford part number: C3AZ4635H / Timken part number: 51204 / Dana-Spicer part number: 5409X .. U-Joint

Cup O.D. (2) 1 1/16" (2) 1 1/8" // Cup I.D. (4) 11/16"

Info source: 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog ~ Driveshaft Application Charts ~ Text ~ Section 46.2, Page 12.

In order to find the correct U-Joints, you first have to look up the correct driveshaft. This is why I needed the exact wheelbase.

The Napa guys should be able to help you. I have mis-matched driveshafts and changed trannies before, and they have a Spicer book that has all kinds of weird adapter U-joints with all the measurements.

I used a old early 70's bronco slip joint assembly in the front driveshaft of my 80, and they had a u-joint that was narrow one way, and wide the other way to make it fit. If that u-joint ever goes out, that poor guy will be doing the same thing you are.

Yep and those slip yokes are the easiest thing to replace and change too.

Glad you got it sorted.
