Hello everyone! I have a 94 IDI turbo A fue days ago it started to cut out then died. I started it back up (witch took some cranking) it ran for mabe 5 sec and died again. We pulled it home and the next day I tried changing the fuel filter. It started and ran 10 sec or so and died. Now it won't start at all. I took the filter back off and cranked the engine over and fuel came out. So I'm thinkig the lift pump is ok. I called the diesel shop in town they said my IP was bad. But i want to be sure before I spend that much on a new IP. Could it be its got air in the system. Its been cold here but the day it started all this it was around 40. Any help would be great. Everyone have a great day and God bless.
When you changed filter. Did you fill it with fuel? Send a PM to Dave S. (moderator) and ask him on fuel flow needed. He is the expert on these engine specs.
Do a pressure and flow test of the fuel pump at the Schrader valve on the filter header (FSS- fuel shutoff solenoid disconnected on IP). Remove the tire valve core and hook a hose and pressure guage on it should see 4-6 psi when starter cranking engine over. Then do a fuel quantity test same place, should see 1/3 pint in 10 seconds of starter engine cranking, route fuel to a suitable container with a hose. When all finished hook up the FSS wire .
