I got stuck and put the truck in 4x4 and only spun the rear wheels. I have read some of the posts and manually locked the hubs and 4x4 engaged without any problems. The vacuum pump seems to be working fine so I guess I need to inspect and replace the lines. Does anyone have the procedure on how to do that?
Thanks for your help.

Don't get pissed yet, unfortunately the auto hub usually acts like that. The front wheels has to have some movement for the hub to lock up.
We had a conversation about a month and half ago about how to check the 4X4 auto , if you do some search, I'm sure you find it...
You can check for vacuum at each hub. Another area where there are problems are inside the hub where two o ring seals can get damaged and let out vacuum pulse so the hub doesnt engage. Depending on how old your system is and when it needs work, these seals often need be replaced when doing ball joints and front end service, u joints ect. Then use them often to keep em working.
