dont you see it, they need to file chapter 11 and reorganize without the unions running things. That is the only way gm and ford will survive. The unions have destroyed the us auto makers. It is ridiculous how much they are paying bottom of the barrel jobs in some of the plants.
Time out.
The unions were thier own worst enemy, but the auto companies themselves share equal blame for the crap they produced for so many years and for accepting outrageous contracts.

P.S. That dosent mean the american worker should give up more, so the fat cat can claim more for his big fat bonus for helping these companies fail. Bill
Unfortunately I think they are going to have to give up something to keep thier jobs. Although it would suck a lot, I'd rather take a 20% pay cut than a 100% pay cut.
It would be nice to see the big shots take big pay cuts as well. Lead by example. Maybe even go to the lines and turn a wrench or two so as to lift morale a little.
I agree....i actually like the idea that was proposed today by obama about ceo's pay cap...the workers are going to have to take a cut....and so are the ceo's....but your right mike....rather take 20 percent less than be unemployed...
I like the regulation only if the government is giving bailout money. I don't like messing with free market. There is also something to be said about keeping good talent at the helm.
Say if one guy screws it all up and quits and they get a government bailout. Who are they going to get to fill those shoes at that salary? To us morals it seems like a lot of money, but those guy might also be getting other offers of multiple millions.
It's a fine line to walk when you're talking about regulating compensation of private industry.
Really were there many intellegent people at the helm recently????
LOL
From my rather short life experiences, I have found that it can always get worse. But from the domestic automaker's and UAW's point of view, there was little talent at the helm.
I certainly that our economic situation doesn't lead the car makers back to using poor quality cheaper parts and or cutting corners on build quality just to keep the top 1% of the wage earners in the life style that they have become accustomed to.
#1 ask for a bail out, cap pays and no parties\retreats.
#2 as much as I hate it, a 20% pay cut is always better than 100% (been there twice)
#3 I dont know about you, but if I was to be let go today I dont think my company would give me any more than a good bye, so why do all these upper management get let go with these big pay outs when the companies are going bankrupt and 100s of people are losing there jobs. they've done nothing but ruin a company and still get rewarded???????????
As for the private company doing well and not asking for help, its there bussiness what they pay out, no matter what I think. Bill
