Depends. If you want the NOAA weather bands, you're probably going to be stuck with a Cobra. From what I understand, they're the only ones that still make a CB with the weather bands. If you don't need the NOAA channels, then go with whatever fits your budget. I've installed just about every make and model on the trucks at work. They're all about the same. The Radio Shack units work just as nice as the Midland's or the Cobra's. It really comes down to what features you want and how much you want to spend.
ok weather bands arent important to me im just lookin for something that will help me on the highway and for work,,,preferably digital read out,,,and im out a door window and mirror god..if the person wanted a cb that bad he could have just told me and i would have sold it to him haha
Depending on features you want.
SOme of the old cheap radios still worked very well.
The old Uniden 510/520XL were cheap but you could make them talk well.
The only Draw back to the 510 was the 4 LED S-Unit meter, and not RF Gain. The 520 had RF gain, but same S-Unit meter.
Thing is these are cheap new and even cheaper used.
Uniden PC-122 is a great radio with SSB. Good audio, and pretty good front and back end.
Most radios you can make talkers, it takes matching up a good mike and knowing how to adjust things.
Most of the new stuff I think is pretty much outsourced, i.e. same boards, just packaged differently. For some reason I am thinking Connex is making alot of main boards for a lot of CB radio manufactures.
I base my experiance on using and owning a broad array of radios.
Some of the radios I have owned were.
Uniden 510XL, PC-122, Grant XL, Madison, Jackson
Corbra 19XLR, 139, 142GTL 148GTL,
Royce 648-1
Realistic Navajo TRC-30A
Johnson Messenger 123A, 4230
DAK Mark IX
Golden Eagle Mark III
I have probably forgot about a dozen others. That And I did all of my tunning on my radios.
I like my Cobra, but I had a cheap one from walmart that worked well too. I think it was $40 a few years ago $70 doesnt give you much between cb and antenna
Can you still get CB radios with SSB or are the all just AM now?
Yes there are still plenty of them. Cobra still has the 148GTL ST, and the new Bluetooth one.
There are a bunch of other names that have come out since I was big into radios.
Like Texas Ranger, Galaxy, Then there are people who have modified 10 meter rigs Like the RCI-2950, 2970, HR2510. Now the newer ones are made by Connex, Voyager, Galaxy, and Magnum.
um first off i was just pointing off that those are ancient and yeah i could probably find a new cb for whatever he wants for those,,to bad everything wasnt like this haha

I just found it really funny that you were saying they were ancient. Sorry I just got a kick out of it.
This might be a good option for you if you want a good brand name but cheap.
