Hmm, I know the 6 speed behind the 99-02's will work to a point, the bellhousings were the same, but you won't have a speedo, but I don't know about an 06 because I don't know if the bellhousing of the 6.0's is the same as the 7.3
Even with the GV i dont go much faster than 55 because the rpms start to run high. I would actually like the 5 speed(it would be just like a 6 beacuse of the GV) but i might be able to get a deal on the 6 thats the only reason im asking, if i cant get the 6 to go in then i wont buy it.
I have a speedo sensor by the tranny, is that not what you were talking about?
at 70 im well over 3200. To me, thats just not a leisurely pace for cruising down the highway but thats IMO. Yes the GV is working. The tranny is geared low, i know they all are but this one must be lower than others? i can look now at what tranny i have on it, im about to go finish the clutch job. I havnt gone on the highway since the new tires so i dont know what kind of difference they have made.
You have an underdrive transmission, thats why the RPMs are so high. I didn't know gearvendors made an underdrive. Normally I would suggest a 3.08 axle ratio swap, but it seems that you have a 4wd by the look of your truck so that won't work.
Short answer is that a ZF6 will not work. The tailshaft is too big to match any of the transfer cases that are equipped with a speedometer cable drive. I heard that machining the tailshaft might be possible, but thats not something I can offer any real info with. Much better off swapping the underdrive for an overdrive or getting a ZF5.
Well, to do that Joe, you would have to get a rearend out of of and SD, and then if I remember things right, the speed sensor in the dash would have to be swapped to an electronic one.
But wow frosty, yeah something is off, I'm not trying to call you a liar but I'm doubting your GV is working, cuz my GV doesn't work and thats almost where I run on RPM's to run 70, but I have 35's on my truck.
