My pickup didnt come with a stock tach so i thought it would be cool to add one. just wondering if anyone knows the factory redline so i dont blow it up
i have a carbed setup and i used to hold my foot on the floor and wait for rev limiter which didnt exist...
so thats sayin something about worrying about blowing it up... now i try to stay under 250k as opposed to a million like before(i dont have a tach either)
The only real descrepancy or variation in answers you get is everyone's difference in teh definition of the word "redline"
Some perceive it as "shiftpoint", which in a carb'd 300s application is usually around 3500
Others perceive it as "1 rpm shy of putting 6 4" holes in the hood", which in virtually any 300s case is anyones guess. Probably 6k, give or take. However, theyre usually so underpowered from the factory that they pretty much CANT blow up...right away (even if you hold your foot flat to floor like a certain someone has demonstrated) All the EFI ones should have a tach and rev limiter anyway so im assuming youre carb'd.
To end, set your redline ticker to 3k or 3500 and let the good times roll!
tach's were still an option on 4.9's my 95 5spd doesn't have one and i have done the same thing hold it to the floor and get on it to see what she had. i don't see any of these engines putting 4" holes any where. but i did talk to a mechanic buddy at ford and he told me a good shift point is 2000 rpm's if you have a tach.
A 300's peak torque is around 2000rpm, and peak horse is around 3000rpm (give or take). That said, I would agree with 5.0 torx, not much need to rev beyond 3500. You won't blow anything up, and there really isn't much need to rev these sixes any higher than that.
