Hi everyone, I was wondering if you all might be able to help me decode my data plate, I have done the VIN but never got around to doing the data plate, anyway, here is my info

Rear Axle Code: 24 = Dana 60 / 4.10-1 / non Limited Slip / 5,300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.
Front Axle Code: P = Dana 44-6CF / 4.55-1 / non Limited Slip / 3,500 lb. Front Axle Capacity with P/S.
13 = New York Ford District Sales Zone Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
While un-common, having the front axle ratio different from the rear is something Ford would do, if the customer requested it.
The front/rear axle ratios were RPO's = Regular Production Order(s).
Your truck was not a special order, as its DSO code (13) is only two digits. A 6 digit DSO denotes a special order.

Ok, great, so my truck actually was still the original color before I cut the cab up in peices and junked it, thats good cause I really liked the color, color was kinda like bigfoot!! That thing with the gear ratio's is odd though, why would someone order that ratio though? I know when I got the truck before I redid it, it had an operating engineer's union sticker in the window, and the truck had all kinds of towing goodies, so I am guessing that it used to pull heavy equipment. I will never know, the owner is long gone. I always thought the interior was odd as well, it had a tuck and roll 2 tone dashpad and seat that was pretty cool but unfortunatly didnt survive all those years of service. The 4.55-1 front and 4.10-1 rear axle ratios is the 3rd one I've come across on FTE.
Even though I've decoded well over 600 VIN's and Warranty Plates here on FTE, I remember running into this before, all were 1970's F250's.
Well, assuming that you still have the np203 and it hasnt been converted to part time...I dont think you will notice anything different on dry road besides a little wheel hop when turning. Don't qoute me on this, but I think the 4:55/4:10 thing worked because the np203 being a full time tcase had some way to slow the front driveshaft down when needed.....at least thats what I can think of. I'm pretty sure that if you wanted to convert to part time, you would have to change the gears to match....I dont have a tag on my front diff so I dont really know what is in it anymore...but I can tell you that it had late 70's little warn locking hubs on it, so it makes me suspect that the entire diff was changed. I am gonna have to jack the truck up and spin the wheels and count the turns of the yoke to see what gear ratio I have, Or maybe I will just pull the diff cover and see if the writing is legible on the ring gear or pinion. If anyone else wants to chime in I'm listening...I would like to learn a little more about this.
I have P.T. 4 wheel drive (NP 205 if i'm not mistaken). I don't know much at all about axles and gear ratios. I am positive that the gear ratios have never been altered, that my axle code is 24P, and that I have the part time 4X4. I am currently waist deep in body work and have been for the 2+ years that i've owned the truck. I have never driven the truck further than out of my garage and around the block. The 4X4 works, but I haven't driven it far enough to see any problems with the gear ratio difference.
Hmmm...interesting. I didnt think that f250's had np205's till a little later on..like 76 or 77, but I guess I'm wrong. All I know is that my truck is fine in 4wd...I use it all the time, I plow a lot of snow here in NY and it works great. Maybe someone else will chime in soon and set me straight!! lol
