Did I blow my engine?

Since the CPS is fixed and doesn't move I'm wondering how revving the engine damaged it? I guess some sort of resonant vibration is a possibility. It might've been a bad CPS that caused the truck not to start in the first place. It's probably advised to do an OA at the next change just to see if it shows anything out of the ordinary, and a coolant analysis might also be a good idea.

Well, picked it up. Running like new. No water in the oil. Replaced the cam sensor and battery. Everything seems to be running fine.
Apparently I damaged the sensor when the engine reved up so fast.
This is real good news.
Thanks for all your help guys. This shop turned out very honest. They could have very easily taken me for a ride.
The shop is called Tony's Truck Repair in Modesto Ca. just in case you live in the area and need help.

As i was reading through the first page, i was about to reply asking how everyone could be guaranteeing this guy that his motor is shot, start looking for a new one, when no one but the OP has seen or heard it run, and was there to know what happened. When youre engine uncontrollably revved up, it is called a "runaway", even though the injectors are not injecting fuel, there was enough fuel sprayed in, in the form of ether to cause the engine to uncontrollably accelerate. Once that fuel burnt off, it stopped. There's no such thing as redline, you might have hit 4000, 4500, rpms, no one knows because the ignition was off. When i had my red truck, i had to start it with ether, and it would chug out white coal and run very rough for the first few minutes, and if you sprayed ether into the compressor, it would rapidly accelerate for a second or two, i can easily see how three seconds would cause a runaway. Glad to see you got it solved though. Don't carry ether in your truck anymore.

Glad she's back & kicking!
As for the batteries, if you had one bad one, replace them BOTH. SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for diesels. With one bad one, it tends to kill the "good one"; then that one is weak/going bad. You put a good/fresh one in. The weak one makes the draw from the new one excessive, dragging it down.... see the cycle here? Do yourself a favor & go buy a 2nd battery. Sell the 1 good one on craigslist or something like that. Take it to a car stereo shop and see if they'll give you $20 or whatever for it. Just make sure you always replace your batteries in pairs.
