X2 for the CPS. I had that prob on my wifes truck twice. The third time we had a similar crank but no start issue, I had to replace the IPR valve in the HPOP. 201xxx miles and still goin good. hope this helps.
the part I don't understand is that the truck ran fine on Friday, and did not start on Saturday, or Sunday. Still will not start today. The weather is nice today 52 right now, so the cold is not a factor. I hope it is not the hpop, they are big bucks, and will cut into my stacks fund
Did a ford dealership do the CPS? I know I had an off brand and it was my problem once I put the motorcraft one in.....man I am puzzled on this one.....
The WTS light does go off after a few seconds, right? No smoke while cranking means your injectors are not trying to fire. Proper voltage, fuel pressure, oil pressure, and the correct sensor readings are what you need to start.
You can check all your fuses with a test light, and you could try a CPS swap since that's cheap, but beyond that, it sounds like you need to get the truck on a scanner that can monitor live data unless you can get a hold of a code reader. If you can find a code reader, crank the engine for 15 seconds a couple of times to see if it will trip any other codes.
I am still leaning towards the fuel pump. Even though you are getting fuel, doesn't mean that it is at the right pressure.....You mention that when yoou sprayed a little ether into it, it ran right?
I have a superchips reader, but nothing good comes up. Will a snap on reader do the job? I know there is no fuel going to the motor. I will try a cps swap when I get home from work. I wonder is the dealer will pay for it if the one they put in is a P O S. Man this sucks.
Ether made it crank faster, that's about it. The truck never started. The wts light will go out after a few seconds. I even jumped out the relay just in case but still nothing. Is there a way to see fuel from the HPOP, I would hate to buy one if I don't need it.

Exactly the failure I saw. One day it would run fine next day not start. Then it might start and run or not. CPS.
In techno babble terms. If there is a PN junction in the component and it begins to breakdown heat can cause the junction to conduct or not conduct and it does not have to be repeatable. It may or may not fail like a light bulb. There are failure modes between ON and OFF on this component. It could fail and be 90% reliable which happened on one of my fords and drove me nuts until I changed the CPS.
But feel free to change the fuel pump if you think that is your problem, just trying to help.
Remember injectors will not trigger and allow fuel flow if it doesn't see the engine turning by using the CPS.
the pump will hum, but you can hear noise in the line that sounds like air. As far as the cps I will pick one up after work and give it a try, if anything I will have a spare.
