88 2.9L dead??
i have a 88 Ranger STX, thinkin bout sellin, but still up in the air. but anyways, one day i was driving it and came up to the stop sign and it just died. tried to start it and it didnt want to. got it home to find its still getting fuel, but not too sure on the spark. any ideas?? something like this ever happen to u guys or am i just an odd ball?
my cousin has a spare 2.9 sittin around that i could replace mine with, but would like to figure mine out, as mine has half the amount of miles as his

There is a module mounted on the side of the distributer [the tfi?] that is prone to failing due to the location and excessive heat. This was a potential problem that was pointed out by Ford engineers before the engine was ever put into production. It was overruled by the beancounters. Not one of Ford's better ideas. If you can get it off w/o pullind the distributer you are ahead of the game. I wasn't so lucky and re-stabing the dist is a royal pita. Took the wife and I several hours of turning the air to blue cheese to do.
