I would also appreciate input from people who have the Cat and the Gibson muffler. In your opinion how does it sound while in the cab? Thanks.

I have installed the Banks complete system, which includes the gibson muffler. to tell you the truth,I was disappointed.
First off let me tell you that the sound is diffinetly deeper, but the complete system (headers and 31/2inch pipe and all) is actually quiter than the stock exhaust was.
Sure there are times that I can hear it, but most of the time there is just a really low growl...

on the 87-96 trucks, if u run pipes with no muffler and jus the cat(s) you can barely even hear it in the cab when u get on it real hard, and the sound is a great low deep rubmle, i had a 93 f-150 with a 302 and i just ran a y off the single pipe after the cats and ran two pipes out the back and it sounded great, but i could not even hear it in the cab

I am running a Gibson exhaust. I had them put it in on my 90 I6 about 4 years ago and couldn't be happier. They installed it at their shop in Yorba Linda CA. 3" mandrel bent pipe from the stock manifold back. 3" Cat and muffler. AWESOME sound outside. Deffinitley gives the truck a mean rumble. On long trips however, I use earplugs as the low frequency vibrations can be deaffening in the cab. Couldn't be happier with my choice and would do it again. high quality product IMHO.

Ok this isn't exactly on a ford but I do own a Gibson Muffler on my 95 Chevrolet Suburban. It sounds awesome! has a nice tone to it with a deep lug lug noise. Inside the front seat the low tone of the exhaust on the highway isn't bad at all and doesn't bother me one bit.. but backseat passangers say it's alittle louder. I think you would be happy with a gibson if you got it

i have the gibson side swept on my inline six.......i was disappointed because it is really quit. At idle it has a nice sound if u are close to the muffler. But get far away and u cant hear it.....very quiet muffler. If u want quiet it's the way to go, loud.......go somewhere else.

I just had a Gibson with 2.5" custom catback (dual tips ahead of the passenger wheels) installed on my 2001 Edge 4.0 auto with K&N filter, and I couldn't believe the sweet sound I got the first time I fired it up. I'd describe it as a gutsy rumble, but not so loud as to annoy the neighbors. There is some resonance in the cab, largely due, I'm sure, to the position of the exhaust tips, but the truck wasn't that quiet inside to begin with. I'm just breaking the factory chip back in following the installation, but performance is at least equal to and probably somewhat better than before. So count me as a happy Gibson customer. Work was done by AA Speed & Custom, Woodbridge, VA.
