supercharge or turbo(which you already have!) any triton motor and it will blow a "chipped" diesel outta the water. why do you think drag cars use gas motors! now i am not saying i wouldn't want a diesel for towing but saying that you cant be siping tires on diesel trucks is a bunch of hogs wash!!!
Prove it... my buddy has a 5.4 3v supercharged and never came close to me in my chipped diesel. And he paid like $6,000 for it. If you find any stats on super/turbo charged 5.4's or 6.8's I would love to see them!
Went through 2 sets of siped tires and never had any problems with my 7.3. Diesel is still almost a dollar a gallon higher than gas here. Usually have had better luck with skinny tall tires in the snow.
Back to some of the original discussion. I don't think my mind can be changed about the skinny vs. wide tire comparison. Seen way to many skinny tire trucks practically go where snowmobiles have. The issue of a V10 not performing in the snow is laughable, I never had issues because of my gasser, if anything it's all driver error or skill.
How skinny of a tire are you talking about? I run a pretty wide tire at 12.5'' and I was actually very surprised today how awesome my tires work in the snow and ice. I got my 2wd tractor stuck in the snow out in the field today and nobody was home to help me, so I got my truck out there to hook up a chain and just left the tractor in neutral and was able to pull it out of the drift with no problem at all.. I thought I would never get it out by dragging it so I was super pumped about how good these Toyo Mt's are....

honestly i have no way to prove it cause there arnt many 5.4 trucks supercharged out there......but, how much boost is he running? and what are the gearing of the two trucks, ect.... as mentioned earlier its almost impossible to get an accurate comparison.
the reason i wouldn't really want a diesel as something that i daily drive(aka use for things other than just towing! cause i would love to have two trucks a diesel for towing and a gasser for everything else) is because after for working delivering Christmas trees in a f550 stake body with trailer all over the place i just love my gasser. It runs nicer, starts easier, maintance is easier, you dont reak after refueling, you can get gas everywhere, you can turn it off and restart it as much as you want, there is no turbo lag, weighs less for going in the mud, ect......
Ace, what do you pull over the mountains weight wise? how is the mileage with that and does your truck slow down because of it? Most of the guys here that have V10's and pull anything of real weight have a serious issue going over the passes. I weigh a little over 23,000 GCVW at times which is quite a bit but most of the time I am only at around 18,000 or so.
I have 35 12.50 Toyos for the winter and 37 13.50's in the summer. Both are great tires and have only been stuck on snow once but it was due to the 10,000 lb trailer I was trying to back through a foot of snow on top of ice. I did get out though after shoveling a little bit of snow from in front of the tires.

last November i had a weighed out at the most i ever had at 22,500# after getting hay and i will tell you on the little hills of the eastern shore of maryland my truck would do ok, maybe lose 5mph or so when i was going about 55 and got 7-8 mpg. I usually use a 90s cummings dodge whish pulls with no problem on these hills
Up here the pulls are pretty long and hard. Thanks for responding. I used to pass people going up hill but now I am getting to the age that the speed limit is fine except for when they pass me and then slow down in front of me. That just gets me all fired up.
jasfaa, I honestly have never weighed a trailer I've towed. I've always just hooked them up and gone, with nary a hiccup. I just make sure I've got the right size ball on for the trailer, hook up the chains, the trailer brakes, check the lights work and get going.
Siskiyou Summit is the highest point on Interstate 5 (4300'+), and one I have driven numerous times, with trailer(s) in tow. I also cannot go east without getting to over 5100'. West, to the coast is relatively easy, but north has a number of long steep grades, some near 5200'. So, I don't know my weight and don't know the weight of my trailer, or the other one's I've towed, but up to over 5200' the V10 will pull them all without a hiccup, towing travel trailers, boats, sleds or whatever else I hook up. It'll do it at the speed limit, or with a little more pedal, as fast as I want to drive. I typically average about 10 mpg but as low as mid-8s when towing, depending on the grade and length of the trip. Based on where I live the V10 is the best for me. I'm the only one I know with the V10 though, that camps or tows trailers similar to my friends with PSDs. Their trucks pull the same hills I do and we all get to the same campgrounds at the same time, so I can't tell you if their trucks do it easier. I've got more rear wheel torque than two of them (with 7.3L), and not the other (with 6.0L).
I think, to get back on topic, at least a little, that the weight of the V10 would be an advantage in the snow, or in most offroad circumstances. I don't think that had much to do with what I saw on the OP's video though.
edited to add: By the way, I may be up your way this summer, or maybe next. I'm thinking of driving up with the kids for some camping, exploring around there. If my dad passes away in the near future I'll be taking his ashes up there too (he wants one last jump from the Jordan bridge, or maybe somewhere in the Stilly).
