My brake pressure/cruise control deactivation switch is leaking on my 02 Explorer. I've got the new switch which came with a tie wrap and a harness. Does it need teflon on the threads? Most importantly do I need to bleed the brakes after I replace it? I've got repair manual for a 98 Explorer and says you have to bleed the brakes, but I've talked to several shops and they say you may not need to. It's leaking pretty bad, so I need to hurry up and change it. But if I have to bleed the brakes I'll need to get another helper that's why I haven't done it yet.
Most of them do not require bleeding the brakes. Some fluid may seep out while changing it but as long as no one pumps the brakes or something it should be fine.
Yes I replaced it a few minutes ago and seems ok. I couldn't figure out what to do with the harness that came with it since I didn't have instructions to follow. But I guess the new harness plugs into the old harness and then plugs into the new sensor. I guess that's the reason for inlcluding the tie wrap since it lengthened the total length of the harness.

This was part of the cruise control recall. Something there was causing fires. Mine was leaking, and I had not done the recall. I went to the dealer for the part, and the guy told me it was part of the recall and swapped it out on the spot. No bleeding--brakes or financial--required.
I didn't receive a recall notice on this 2002 Explorer. The only recall notice was the glass lift supports failing. I haven't done that because I never use it. I did get the cruise control/brake switch recall on my 99 Explorer Sport that I need to get done.

I took my sport trac to my local ford place for the recall. The service manager handed .e the new part and told me I probably need to change the brake psi out and walked off.
