cruise control switch
I have a 97 f-150, cruise control switch leaking, went to dealer picked up one of the new cruise control switches (only cost $17.08), it comes with the new switch which threads into the master cylinder.
!. Do I need teflon tape on the thread or not
it also comes with and harness not sure why,
and it comes with a wire tie,
2. Is this to tie the extra wire to make a neat install or what, also I asume I will have to bleed the brakes, plan on flushin with new fluid anyway.
any help will help me, also anybody else do this themselfs.
Thx
The short harness comes with it because the new switch has a different connector than the old one. If the old switch was leaking you're supposed cut the old connector off and splice the new on one. If it wasn't leaking you just plug the jumper harness into the old connector.
The wire tie is to make sure the new harness doesn't get pulled apart. You tie the new jumper harness to the old one. Sorta loop it and tie it together so it can't pull apart.
You don't need to bleed the brakes after but it won't hurt if you do. With the way the switch is situated in the master cylinder brake fluid will leak out of the hole that the switch goes into so there won't be any air getting it. You're supposed to put a few drops of brake fluid into the switch before you install it but I'm not really sure how that will help as it will run out when you install the switch.
one more question what is the method to splice the wires together, do I solder the wires, or can I use the crimp connectors. thx again
