Ok so I use my truck for plowing driveways and it doesn't seem my alt and battery can handle this always slow starting and slow windows while plowing so my question is what is the best alternater i can get and what do you guys think about a deep cycle marine battery
How about a dual battery setup, looks like you can get 95, 130, or 180 amp alternators for these as well. I looked at Summitt, 180 amp Bosch was fairly expensive.
Deep cycle batts. and your trucks charging system dont get along real well. Deep cycle batts. are designed to be discharged heavily and then re-charged. In your truck the battery will tend to overcharge as its not being drawn down and constantly charged by your alt. I had to do this very thing in an emergency (use the boat battery to start the truck)...........Result was, battery was boiling over by the time we got home. It probably wont hurt your truck but it will wreck the battery in short order.
Maybe even a high end battery like an Optima, and a higher output alternator. I've been thinking about that 130 amp Powermaster for my truck, because of my amp.
I don't care for optima. I had one and it didn't fit the battery tray even with additional mounting tabs that optima sent me. I had to have a bungee cord on it. I ended up selling it and getting a regular battery.
I also have read quite a few negative things about optima. I don't know if any of them are true or not though.
I like the idea of a better alternator and a pair of batteries, like the diesels have.
I have been thinking about upgrading to the 130 amp alternator for some time. Can I just swap it out of does it need to have other components upgraded as well?
on a second note i use to have a deep cycle marine in my 78 bronco without any problems but i had a lot more stuff in that truck, winch, lights, amps, compressor. the guy who i will have rewind my alt did the alt in that bronco and the deep cycle batt never had any problems
Does anyone know if I can upgrade the alternator from a 95 amp to a 130 amp without upgrading anything else?
On my 95 f150 I6 it came with the 95 amp, when that took a crap i replaced it with the 130. bolted right in, engine bracket had 2 sets of holes, and the wiring plugged right in, works great!

What alternator did you get? notice any differences performance wise of the 130Amp ?
