I have a c4 in my truck or by the door tag i do that stoped pulling , so i got another c4 tans off line and its not the same as the one in my truck , the dip stick on the trans in my truck is runnig to the pan , but the trans i got off line has the dip stick in the main body of the trans, is it a fmx???
C4's came with a pan mount dipstick (mostly found in trucks) and a case mount dipstick (mostly found in cars) but the pan bolt pattern will be the same. but between the two trans is what they call big bellhousing (pan fill) with a bigger torque converter bolt pattern I think 11 7/16 with a 164 tooth flywheel and small bellhousing (case fill) that has smaller torque converter bolt pattern I think 10 1/2 and 157 tooth flywheel
It will work as long as you have the correct converter and matching flywheel for the trans being used. I don't think the C4 had different length trannys like the C6 did. Yes a 4x2 and a 4x4 are different lengths but I'm pretty sure all 4x2 C4's were the same over all length.
You have to make sure it has the same spline count and that it will fit the other C4 bell housing. my past experience is there was at least two different bell housings and they each had there own flywheel and converter and the larger one would not work in the smaller bell and if you use the smaller flywheel in the larger bell the starter would not work. The converter has to match the bell housing except for small into big if you could even get a factory flywheel for such a set up? The flywheel has to match the bell housing so that starter will work. The bolt pattern for the torque converter to flywheel is different between the sizes as well. This was years back when I ran into such a problem and I am pretty sure some where the front pump shaft changed in the number of splines they had. I'm no expert so dig into a bit more.
So i think i will use the TC that is in the truck insted of the one that come with the trans that i got off line and i should be good to go? i hope
You are intedning to use a "used" converter from a trans that has failed? Thats asking for trouble.
Did you buy a used automatic transmission and intend to use this as well? This too is asking for trouble.
Is there a reason that you simply did not have your existing trans re-built?
Perhaps it was in an attempt to save some money, but it would appear that any attempt to save time or money has be disolved, and you should now try to minimize loss. Sometimes the short cut, even with the best intentions is not the best nor most efficient way to perform a task.
Use the used converter and you will be removing the replacement transmission in no time.
