1973 f100 history dmv

I have a 1973 ford f100 2wd w/ 302cid 2bbl. I cannot run a carfax on the the truck just to check its history. The NCDOT is making me take the truck in for a theft and recovery inspection cause they cant verify the vin in the computer. I have a title and the vin matches the plate on the door. It all looks original and legit. I cannot locate a vin on the frame, this frame also looks original. Has anyone had an issue with this. I purchased the truck in Fort Mill, SC and trying to register in Charlotte, NC.

Any help would be great

The VIN will be on the top of the pass frame rail near the front tire. It is also under the cab, but that is much tougher to get at. lol. You will need a wire wheel or brush to clean the area to see it. Good luck with the DOT.

Welcome 73F100, sorry to hear of the troubles, I HATE dealing with the DMV, they can be a royal pain when all your trying to do is the right thing legally. I had quite a hassle with my KTM, CHP had to inspect, DMV had to inspect, perseverence and a cool head will keep it running smoother! I had to bite my toungue many times to avoid telling idiots they were being idiots. Good Luck.

Have you decoded your VIN#? If you post it, someone can decode it for you, or try the one at the top of this page under Articles/Specs, although sometimes that doesn't work real well.

Yeah tell me about it, its bad enough the kid I bought the truck from had done alot of performance things to it and it took me 2, friends and 2 24packs of beer , and about 5 hours just to correct the truck. Now the DMV wants me to jump thru hoops for them.

Yeah Im able to decode it/// f10ger05911. I told the dmv I doubt some one would go through all the trouble of stealing and old farm truck, faking SC paperwork just to drop $1200 worth of parts and then sell it for $700.00. Especially since I bought it right from his Dads Farm.

Most DMV records are deleted after 5 years.

The previous owner must have owned it for a lonnng time.

You need to clean the whole area. It's never the same exact spot. It is located on the upper lip. It's probably too faint. Just clean it really good with a degreaser. Then use a strong flashlight to inspect for markings.
