Did you get it out ok? I just did my new Alpine deck and had a little fun getting the old one out but as it said in the other instructions, just pry to the outside and shake it around a bit and it will release eventually. I am looking at my old one right now and the clips are about 1 1/4" in from the front of the deck. I used a few (4) mini screwdrivers and pried one side then held that side, inserted more drivers (the other 2) and pried the other side.
Got a cool mounting kit from the stereo shop with the harness... ever easy!!
The mount fit right in (I had the "deck mount" installed into the plastic mounting kit already) and snapped into place easier than I expected, then some quick wiring (I checked the wiring from the kit harness to the deck wiring and then did some measurements on the truck's harness) and good to go.
It may well have been easier than changing the dreaded left side headlight lamp! I had to remove the 6637 filter then the battery, battery box then change the lamp, put it all back together and pray when I tested it...lol

Hope you got into the dash ok.

Dave

I had to pull the dash to replace some of the bulbs that light up the instrument cluster. What you need to remove the radio is a set of DIN tools. They are really cheap <$10 bucks, and compared to trying to make them out of coat hanger, they are totally worth a few bucks

After that, drop the shifter in to '1' and tilt the steering wheel all the way down and kind of just pry it off.

Hope that helps!

Thanks guys, all done. Bought the DIN tools, missed the bit about having to pull them outwards to remove radio, finally figured it out. I also replace my dash lights while I was in there, 5 #194's and cleaned the lens. I made a couple of wooden tools out of 9 inch dowels, just filed ends down to a point, saves making marks on the dash while trying to persuade it. Later...

I bought them a while ago, but if memory serves, I think it was at the local auto parts store. (I think it was autozone)

Hope that helps!

The pad on top of the dash, under the windshield? If so, you don't want to go there and are better off repairing. A few weeks ago I ripped apart the dash on an f350 to find a lost necklace, dropped into 1 of the air vents. 7 hours, one windshield replacement later I was able to take apart, find and put things back together. The upper dash is one complete unit.
