I've had my '00 V10 Ex for a week with no problems, then last night I got ready to leave a friend's house and it didn't want to start. You could hear the solenoid hit, but it wouldn't try to turn over. Lights , radio, fan all seemed to have plenty of power and amp meter read around 14v but it wouldn't turn over for several tries. I turned off all accessories and it cranked right up - seemed to have plenty of battery power. The temperature was right at zero. When I got home I shut it off , then tried starting again and it fired right up. This morning, with temp at -4, it failed to crank again even after turning off accessories for several tries, but did eventually start. It did crank a little slow for the first rev or so, but not unusual for these temps. It may simply be a loose connection or my sol. may be on the way out, just wondering if this is a common problem in extremely cold temps.
Cold temps require more cold cranking amps to turn the motor over, so first would check battery connections making sure they are clean and tight, if you still have the problem have the battery tested, if the battery is 4 to 5 years old chances are it's weak
I like the Optima Red top, have not had one of these fail me yet, Oh yea they are about 1.5 to 2.0 times the price of a stock battery, but you get what you pay for just my $.02.
The choice is yours.
