I just bought a 4x4 van to build an adventure/camping /tow rig out of. It's a 2002 V10. 55k miles. From what I'm reading the vans got a weaker motor. Do I have the crappy heads? Does anybody know what the real difference is? Is anything specific to van models that I need to know? Seen any good bang for the buck mods specifically for vans?
This thing came with a Dana 60 4x4 conversion, a raised fiberglass roof and an Onan 5.5kw onboard generator. It started as a goverment computer/camera van. I just gutted miles of wire and just knocked out interior walls and computer cabinets. Wish me luck on my build.
The main difference in the power output is due to the intake and the computer. The engine is detuned a bit due to a lower cooling surface and the intake is a mess.
Now I read about the cooling thing but that may only be with the diesel. The V10's intake is in need of re-engineering. It only has a 5hp deficit compared to the trucks so don't sweat it too much.
