Whats everyones opinion on the 6.0 L Diesel engine.Thinking about buying a 2006.....Just wondering what people who have them have to say about the motor......Thanks..Tim
I love mine! Run an Oasis on the one you are looking at....see the 2004-2007 diesel forum for a free Oasis check. Remember that if you are going to chip it, your 100,000 mile engine warranty may well be no good. If the previous owner chipped it (installed a tuner) and Ford knew, that same warranty is prob canceled.
There is so much history and similar posts here and in the 6.0 diesel forum on the FTE site, I question your sincerity. Have you looked around the FTE site? Have you found any specific questions? Have you compared the 6.0 against the 6.4. Do you know the engine in mfrd. by International? What do you want to do with your truck?
The reasons above are just a few why no one is answering your question. Tell your story, and then this forum will comment. Sound fair?
I am just new to the site...I have posted some detailed info on what I will use the truck for....I did not want to keep repeating all the info...Sorry
Lets see....Electrical contractor...Truck always full but not heavily.Weekend hauler....35 foot camper(travel trailer). Also haul snowmobile double enclosed trailer...weight not an issue.Camper weighs 8300 lbs empty.
I put on 35-40 thousand kilometers per year(27000 miles). Most of the time I use it for work.
I know I want a 250 but I am trying to figure out what the best package is for me.I will prbably go crew cab...6.5 ft box....4x4.
Motor set up is the concern....5.4.....6.0....6.8 v-10.If I go new the diesel is out of my price range. My own homework has steered me towards the v-10.Fuel prices in Canada can get wicked....so I am trying to make the right choice here.
Thanks all.........Tim
Well I can tell you if you want better milage to go with a good used Diesel. I worked for a company that had two Triton V10's in our work trucks that got horriable fuel milage when towing or just driveing, but they were always loaded to the max with constructions tools. As for the 5.4L I had a 2003 f-150 and with an exhaust and cold air I was only getting about 15 MPG about 330 Miles per tank. One good thing was I could put my foot into it and still get 15 MPG. I now own a 2005 F-250 with a 6.0L Diesel and couldnt be happier there are so many upgrades for better fuel economy and HP and FT LBS.
Just a lil help.
Mike

I love mine. Some of the reputation isn't deserved but some is. There are things that you can do to make sure it doesn't give you any problems at all(providing install was done correctly). I deal with horses and the truck that is in my siggy is daily driver and towing vehicle for my equine business and I wouldn't trade it for any other vehicle(unless she just ups and dies on me one day). I have had it since it had 20 miles on it and it has well over 100k on it now.
Don't know what some of those upgrades are but they sound awesome....I have one more issue with a diesel.Up here in Canada(east coast)diesel is 25 cents more per liter than gas,if you can believe that.
I really feel that I will not be totally satisfied this time if I go with a gas engine.I really apprecite all your guys help with my desision....Thanks again..Tim......Hmmmm what about cold weather starting?
For the small difference in price, you'll make out much better with a diesel. Towing mileage will be much better, plus the inherent grunt of a diesel will make towing easier as well. It won't feel like you're wringing the thing's neck just to get up a hill.
Me... I'm partial to my 7.3. I won't beat a tuned 6.0 in a race, but the later 6.0s were out of my price range at the time, and the earlier years just seemed too iffy. Both engines have their strong points though.
I am new to this site . I have a 2003 6.0 diesel F350 4X4 Crew cab with about 125K on it . I just started having problems with it . I start it up and it runs OK until I turn it off and then it won't re-start . I have to let it sit for about an hour and then it will start right up . If turn it off I have to go though the same thing- 1 hour wait time. I think it is the fuel injectors ??
