Ok fellow fter's what should a typical oil change / fuel filter change at the dealership (cj 10-30 oil) cost?


Mine just quoted me $326+tax. My response was a.y.f.k.m.?

 

Shouldn't be over 100. I can do a synthetic oil change on my 7.3 for bout 90.

 

I just called 3 local dealerships here today and it ranged anywhere from 85.00-129.95 for oil change, and 129.95-175.99 for fuel filters. I only did this to make sure that I am still competitive with my prices. I am charging 114.95 for a synthetic oil change and 89.95 for a dino oil change. I get 84.50 to do the fuel filters.

I don't know what kind of oil they are using. As far as I know the only place you can get 10w30 cj4 diesel oil is from an international dealership. Ask them how much it will cost with 15w40 motorcraft oil. These trucks do hold 14 quarts of oil and the dealership is raping you on cost so your looking at about 150-200 bucks in just parts from the dealership. That means they are charging you an hour and a half of labor though. Bit ridiculous.

You might want to find another dealership or do it yourself. Just make sure you only use motorcraft, racor, or fram filters. There is a write up in the tech folder. Pretty easy though. Un-do the bolt on the bottom. Use a 24mm socket to remove the oil filter housing. Pop the new one in (make sure the gasket isn't stuck in there). Put the bolt back in. Put 13.5-14 quarts of fresh oil in. Your good to go.

 

I agree you should just do it yourself it is not that hard, or get it done at any lube place. I just changed mine to 5w40 synthetic for 120. I went to a lube shop this time cause I was felling lazy. The fuel filter is easy too. I change mine all the time. I get a motocraft from advanced auto for like 40 bucks or something like that. Takes about 15 mins. to change both fuel filters

 

Well i did do my first oil change when i got it and will do it this time also.when i did change the oil i bought fuel/oil/air filters i did everything myself except the fuel filters. From what i read about changing them (the one on the frame) it sounded a little bit intimidating so i had a local non-dealership shop that i trust do them. I think i will try the fuel filters also what the hell just might learn something.

 

Also pretty simple. You'll get some diesel on you the first couple times you do it but you'll get better with practice. Also a link for doing that in the tech folder.

 

I'm no big mechanic, but both processes are pretty easy, even the fuel filter on the frame. Look in the tech folder for some help. All I needed to buy was the allen (or maybe it was a torx) socket to reach the plug on the filter (the one on the frame). Bring a plastic margarine tub or similar to catch the bit of fuel that comes out....It only takes a few minutes.

 

My dealer mails me notices when I am due, suprizingly their within 300 miles of my odometer reading. $94.95 change oil and filter, rotate and inspect four tires, check air filter, inspect brake system, load test batteries, check belts and hoses, and top off all fluids.

Just had mine done at dealer ( 04 F250 KR ) $ 99.90 ,including tax and shop/misc supply fee.

 

I got a dealer special coupon in the mail the other day stating $55 diesel oil change and $55 air filter change. Sucks i need neither at the time and the coupon will expire before i can get it done.

 

My dealership has $64.95 posted on the board for a 10w-30 oil change. Fuel filters included usually runs around $110-$120 if I remember right. But, here in South central Kansas things tend to b a little cheaper.

The local quick lube here charges around 80 bucks for a dino oil change with rotella, plus their standard check of everything. I can do it myself for about 40-50 depending on where i get the filter.
