Then used the step drill bit to bring it to the proper sized hole for mounting..
where abouts did you guys locate the hole? I felt inside my doors and can't really find a good spot inside that is flat to the edge.

This is on my panel , I needed room for extra wires so have 2 looms on the left side and 1 on the right side
These are on a 56 but understand the slant cab doors are somewhat different around the hinges. On the 56 I also had to drill a hole through the pan that divides the inside of the door

I put holes bigger than needed and there is door panels to cover the inner doors. Without the holes on the inside of the door I don't know how you'd be able to fasten the loom to the door, there is a collar that slides over the loom with set screws..

This is my pickup and you can see I used a smaller hole in the face of the door and I was still able to tighten thos set screws in that collar I mentioned. If drilled the correct size you could use a plug to cover that hole if you're not using interior door panels. Perhaps one of those electrical plugs that are used to fill in an unused hole in an electrical panel like this

Just a suggestion for thought, it could be painted to match your door

thanks, I like that idea. my only problem is I have my new fuse panel and a bunch on wiring in that kick panel so I won't be able to drill from there without removing all of that which would be a pain. I guess i should have thought about it sooner

All you need is a pilot hole, if you have a dremil tool or even better one with a cable drive that may get you started. The step drill would be from the outside of the door and post

i think the step bit will also fit in one of the drill bit extensions (I had to buy one from Lowes for a different purpose), so you could drill from the door side... the pilot hole will help with alignment..
you will want some blocker material in the kick panel so the bit doesn't grab your fuse panel wires...

always fun finding out later stuff you should have done sooner!...

haha thats happened to me a bunch of times on this build.
I was looking at how far my door opened and that i could never drill the door from the outside without the drill chuck screwing up all my paint but an extension like you mention might just work. Ill have to check it out.
