I agree. If you're going to put it in the rear and you're mostly street, go with the TrueTrac. It's a clutchless limited slip that's much more durable than traction-lok or posi-trac clutch-type limited slips. The only drawback is that, like all limited slip diffs, if you lift a wheel it won't automatically transfer power to the other wheel. In that situation, the power will only be transferred if you pump the brakes.
Locking the front is a good option also, but you need to consider that it will at times cause your steering to bind when turning sharply. You have the option of unlocking one hub in these situations to alleviate the problem though.
The Detroit isn't that bad on the street. Especially that you don't have icy road conditions to deal with.
But if the majority of your time is going to be on the pavement, the True Trac is a decent option. It's not as positive as a regular locker, but it is nearly invisible on the street.
You'll get more bang for the buck if you go with the rear.
Like Crawler stated, horsing around in sand in 2 high with the rear locked is much more fun than having to run in 4 just to keep moving.
Those 35 year old axels NEED REPLACED! You have to decide your spline count with your carrier selection. The original 29s will break between the bearing and the wheel flange due to years of stress and when this happens you could be at highway speed. It had happed to my EB once before I bought it and once after. Magnaflux your old axels where I described and check for cracks.
the 28 spline means you have a dana 30 front and ford 9 rear. 31 spine is a dana 44 front w ford 9 rear. ive owned both. but i would not recommend a locker on a 28 spline just because it does not take much force to snap. lessoned learned.

Uh, no. All early Broncos came factory equipped with a 28 spline 9".
The Dana 30 was 27 spline and the 44 had 30 spline axles, but the rear stayed the same 28. Full size Broncos and trucks are a different story.
I agree, a detroit locker is a bit over kill unless your hardcore, it rachets and jerks on the street. A better option for the street and trails would be the detroit tru-trac gear driven lsd. It has no clutches to wear out, grabs like a bear and is street friendly. I run them in my jeep and I'm quite impressed with there performance. I also have the gear driven torson in my 09 ranger, it's every bit as capable as well. The D-locker is great if you need it for rock crawling and such, but if you spend most of your time on the street, the tru-trac will serve you well.
