Yep.They started doin that in 87.I put a cowl panel from an 88 F150 on my 80 F100 because my truck sits for extended periods of time under massive oak trees,so the leaves were just piling up.Finally had enough and did the swap.No more leaves.
I thought that Fordtruckman80 had a such a good idea on this one, that I did this same swap myself. It was a PERFECT swap, the only difference between the two are the small holes versus the long slots. In fact, I think the smaller holes make the whole panel look cleaner.
Just something to keep in mind. The 1987 - 1991 version has the small holes, and the exact body crease to line up with the hood crease on the 1980 - 1986 styling. The 1992 - 1996 version also has the small holes, but they do not have the body crease to match the hood on the 1980 -1986 model, so it will not look like it belongs.

It does look ALOT cleaner.Glad it went well for ya and that you're happy with the results.
I have had 2 of those fires. The 1st one burned the black box that houses the blower and all. I replaced it with a junk yard special, happened again.
From what I found, the blower resistors are spring like coils. On low and Ned. they start getting red hot, anything in that area will catch fire. I replaced the resistors, cleaned out the box, installed a new blower. the burned rubber smell and burned leaves smell are similar in smell.....at least in my case.
I remember the 1st time it happened, I was at the gas station...I pulled the truck as far away from the pumps as I could...over next the the car wash..
Fire dept. came and pulled the hose out, went straight to the cab and starting spraying the underside of the dash....I tried to explain to them the fire was "in the vents" but they kept on hosing the dash...I was grateful for their help, but upset as I watched my NEW CD player and NEW tach gauge drip with water...
CD player/radio still worked...the tach gauge...well, I took it out and cleaned it...took it back to autozone and told them it didn't work..got a new one
