Man, I just put on a new set of Firestone Destination A/T in a 285/75-16 for right at $600 out the door. Beats messing with someone else's used tires that might have problems.
Ok.. I got tires. I ordered tires from Discount Tires Direct. (an internet buy). Tires will be shipped directly to my house. $592.80 / Yokohama Geolander AT/S 285/75/16's.
Screw Craigslist.. That is too time consuming and too many bald tires or tires with little to no tread or the wrong load range.
Go to your local tire shops and see if they have any used ones. I know around here I can get good used tires for around $10 to $20 each, plus mounting and balancing. Most of the time they are off trucks someone has lifted and bought bigger tires and there is nothing wrong with them. I got my last 35" spare that way. 265 or 285 should be fairly easy to find.
believe it or not... I have been checking for about 2 to 3 months at 2 local tire shops that sell used tires. They have not had $#!^ so far a tires for my truck.
Got my new Tires... finally... I went with the Yokohama Geolander AT/S 285/75/16's. They ride really nice and I think better than the 265's.
I think they ride better cuz they are 8ply tires not the 10 ply.
Downside... is I am about 1mpg lower than than before. oh well ... the price you pay.... seems i am getting about 16.5 mpg average
Go to the local rim shops. Ask them what they do with their "take offs". A lot of guys will go straight from the dealer to get new, bigger rims. Or some will wait 6 months to a year. Either way they are good used tires. You might ask them to hold on to a set for you. I like BFG ATs or Bridgestone Dueler AT's. I have Nittos on my truck now and LOVE them. However they only make the bigger wheel sizes. Anywho thats my 2 cents.
Hey guys, he got tires already, congrats on the tires. I got the same ones and about the same price. Good wear so far and great in the snow. The only thing is the 8 ply isn't as stiff as 10 and you get some roll around corners but overall, i like them, good deal Andy
