I just bought a 1993 f350 crewcab, 7.3 deisel, about a month ago. when I first got it it ran fine, but now its gotten to the point in won't shift in to OD. when it started this problem seems it would shift fine cold, but once it warmed up it would not shift. now it won't shift at all. any ideas? The fluid wasn't burnt or smelled bad, I did do a trans service on it, but that didn't seem to help anything.

Do the Speedo and Tach work properly?
Is the fuse that controls the shifter blown, for some reason Fuse #2 is coming to mind, but I know very little about the E4OD, but one of the experts will come on shortly

1) Early Black FIPL has High Failure Rate
RECOMMENDATION
Always replace the black colored early FIPL or any colored FIPL having 60 thousand or more miles with the late gray colored FIPL.

What color is yours......
2) Check all the trans electrical connections especially the one on the right side with the tin cover, remove the tin heat shield, remove the solenoid connector by pushing on the center tab and pulling up on the wire harness. To install push down until a click is heard. Always reinstall the tin heat shield.
Your looking for corroded, bent or missing pins and water etc.......

I had this exact problem and it ended up being a badly scratched 3-4 shift valve. Below a certain operating temperature, it would be like clockwork, but one good hard run up a hill and overdrive would no longer engage until the transmission cooled down again.

just to let everyone one know I'm a ford newbie, been driving a 95 z-71 since it was new, I bought a 27 foot formula boat and the old chevy just doesn't seem to be up to the job. I got a real deal on the ford, its not a show piece, but its really solid with no rust. and when the trans was shifting right it was a joy to drive.

The FIPL is the same thing as a throttle position sensor. It's located on the driver's side of the IP.
You would be better to get some silicone contact grease from any auto parts store. Clean all the contacts and coat them with it.

the fipl is grey, I've checked all trans connection and found no water, bent or rusted pins, I coated the pins with silicone contact grease, fuse #2 looks good, I did notice after checking everything that the od light on the shifter is flashing, and if you push it it still flashes, any ideas?
