hello just a view ?'s might be interested in a new f250 ext cab 6ft bed, just had a few questions about the 6.4 like has it been realible for you guys?? good power?? driving and mpg? and for my last question is there alot of exhaust options?? what about programmers?? and air intakes?? i would want a full intake turbo back...just your opions (sP) would be appreciated
Mine has 3,600 miles on the clock its a 08. I am very happy with it. It is all stock so I cant help you with the MOD questions. I am keeping mine stock for the warranty period. It has plenty of power for me. I get on it and it goes with or without the trailer on the back. It drives real nice, MPG's dont seem that great. I havent calculated it yet though. I havent heard of a lot of people getting good MPG with the DPF equipment on the truck.
ok soo its completely voids the warranty?? soo in other words basically a DPF back exhaust really aint doin ****
In order to remove the DPF you need an aftermarket tuner to shut off the regenerations, installing a tuner could very likely be grounds for warranty denial.
It will more then likly have that EPA stuff on that as well. I was really thinking off getting one off these new trucks. There pretty sweet. Havent made the plunge yet though.Have you test drove one. There awesome. There still making some pretty good deals on them. They had some issue with the radiators but I think thats been taken care off. The mileage isnt the best but that EPA stuff is the reason.
My 08 job 2 now has just over 11k on it. So far, so GREAT! No issues. Loaded with my tools, it weighs in at just over 8300 lbs fully fueled. I am averaging 15.5 mpg mixed driving. (hand calculated). It goes into regen about every 400 miles. 20 min cycle.
Personally I don't understand the big deal about the cleaning cycle. I have no loss of power and the fuel used to heat the exhaust is minimal. (I like the fact that the truck does not smoke and the exhaust and surrounding area stays clean.)
And on a side note, this beast rocks in the snow! Here in Indy, we had a 12.4 inch dump and this truck blasted through it like butter!
Cheers
Overall these are very good trucks. They had a few small bugs to work out but there are very few complaints. Yes, there are some complaints and there are a few really bad ones out there but people tend to forget that a lot of folks only come to this forum if/when they have problems. The complaints so far are fewer than 99-00 on the 7.3 and way less than 03-04 on the 6.0.
Most of us on here dont have a lot of miles yet but there are several with over 60k on the clock that are still very happy.
To remove the DPF requires a programmer to turn off the regen cycle. Voiding the warranty on a 6.4 is no different than a 7.3 (when it was new). If the programmer blows the engine up then expect to pay for it. There are rumors that a programmer leaves a foot print that can always be detected but on the flip side there guys with programmers getting warranty work done.
The other factor is that removing the DPF violates the EPA laws. To get an "off road" tune to remove your DPF you have to sign a waiver. This will hold true on the 6.7 as well. Doesnt sound like a big deal unless the EPA suddenly demands that the names on those waivers be turned over to them.
Bottom line, these are great trucks and yes they can be modified with GREAT results. However they are more advanced and it requires more than adding an exhaust kit. The same rule applies now that applied on a 99 PSD. ANY modification CAN put your warranty at risk so its just a personal choice.

The ECM does have a "flash counter". If your truck has been into service before, a good dealer will check this # against what OASIS shows. If your flash counter reads more flashes than OASIS, you are now out-of-warranty. Some flash tuners such as a Diablosport predator actually make the # jump up to "99" counted flashes, the first time you flash the vehicle.
I just turned 72,500 and something. I absolutely love this truck. Yes, there are things that make you wonder but it is sooooo much better at towing and driving than any other truck I have ever driven.
You can find fault in anything. My preference for driving and the ability to tow a lot of weight comfortably on the interstates matches this '08 truck better than anything I have tried before.
I don't plan on modifying it any time soon. It's too much money for me.
