I already know I may have a fuel issue but I notice when it's below zero and hit my remote start it takes multiple tries to fire the truck up with the remote start. My old X never did it with it's V10 but this 5.4L is doing it. Any ideas or just the nature of the beast?
My 5.4l starts right away, your tach source may need to be changed,
some people use a coil, some use a injector, the coils seem to be a stronger source on the fords, some garages claim the coils as a source, can shorten their life , does yours have a hardwired tach source or a smart sense, tachless type? ,or the crank time may need to be extended ,as the fuel pump may not be getting fuel to the rail quick enough ,Craig.
Check your voltage too. You can have a weak battery that just isn't enough to fire up the engine on remote, but will turn over with the key. For my battery the point seems to be around 11.8v.
Not sure on the 5.4 but I know some 6.0 diesels had this issue because there has to be oil pressure for the injectors to function. Oil is thicker in the cold weather and may take longer cranking time to reach the top of the motor. Im not contending that the 5.4 works the same way but it does sound like a similar issue. Im sure there is a safety mechanism built in to the truck if it doesnt sense oil pressure.
