I have 89 f150, very base-line model. The driver side wiper is Very streaky, its hard to see through. I went and bought new wipers and the drivers side is still streaky. I even tried swapping the drivers/passengers wipers, and they seem to work fine on the passenger side but streak on the driver's side. Do I need to replace the wiper arm? Do I need to replace that spring underneath the wiper arm because it needs more "tension"?
That might help. Might want to oil the hinge point to allow it to flex better. If the arm is stiff to move, then likely it's not following the curve of the windshield well enough.
Also clean the glass with a good strong cleaning solution. Get any bit of oil/wax/whatever off the glass. Windex might not be strong enough.
Also check and see if there's a tiny somethings stuck to your windshield. I had a streak spot. Had a little nubbin on the windshield, razor blade scrapin' took care of it.
Mine don't hardly work at all at highway speeds. They're getting lifted, I need to work on that as well.
