Alternator Issues

So I noticed today that my volt gauge was only reading on the "N" in normal. Normally the needle is in the middle of the word. I used a voltmeter and found that the batteries are putting out about 11.9 volts while the truck is running. Is there a battery warning light that should go on if the batterys are not charging. The alternator in the truck is only 2 years old and I am wondering why it is acting like this.

If they test the batteries be sure to have them check them individually. They will say they can do it together but it doesn't give good results. You will have to disconnect both batteries. If you remove the alt they can check that for you too.

Good point. Might have one bad battery and never know it without splitting them up.
